There has been a lot of research over the last decade, which has concluded that abnormal levels of fatty acids in the brain could be behind the practical and behavioural problems experienced by dyslexic children, as well as those with dyspraxia and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
Many parents of dyslexic, dyspraxic and ADHD children give their children these supplements – some parents have seen remarkable results with their children.
Many of the parents attending the Swindon Dyslexia Centre, whose children are taking dyspraxia supplements have said that within a very short period their child is calmer, can concentrate better and has started to catch up with his reading and writing. This does not appear to help everyone, but it may be worth trying.
‘Efalex‘ – (liquid or tables), provides the important long-chain fatty acids DHA and AA – to help maintain eye and brain function and the development of vision.
‘eye q micro‘ – contains long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids EPA, DHA and GLA from EPA-rich marine oil land pure evening primrose oil. Long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids play an important role in the development of the eye and brain especially vision, coordination, memory and concentration.
These supplements are available from chemists, health shops and supermarkets.

Can herbal products work for people with ADHD? I do not know anyone that has taken herbal products, so I cannot answer this one at the moment. (If people let me know their experiences, this would be really helpful.)
However, one company, ‘Cognitune’ are trying to convince people, who are concerned about the massive growth in medications for ADHD; that herbal products may help to tackle ADHD from a far more natural perspective.
They suggest that the following herbal products can help:

- Bacopa Monnieri – enhances mood
- Caffeine – brain fog supplement
- L-Theanine – promotes a state of relaxation and calmness
- Rhodiola Rosea – its cognitive effects suggest it is an excellent natural substitute for Adderall.
- Phosphatidylserine – combats mood disorders and may reduce perceived feelings of anxiety and depression
- Omega-3 Fish Oil – studies found that fish oil higher in DHA led to improved working memory and attention span.
- Alpha GPC – a reliable supplement to improve focus and concentration in the user.
- Huperzine A – can improve cognitive function in both children and adults.
- L-Tyrosine – can enhance mental cognition during acute and uncontrollable stress
- 5-HTP 5-HTP – can function like prescription ADHD medications Adderall, Vyvanse, and Ritalin.
If you or your child has ADHD, would you rather take a drug or a herbal remedy? If it was me, I think I would probably give it a try and see; it probably wouldn’t take long for you to see if it helps!
Cognitune has compiled a very interesting article about these products, maybe its time to see if these herbal products could help our children; instead of putting them on a ‘toxic’ form of medication.

Vaccinated Children – Two and a Half Times More Likely to Have Neurological Disorders Like ADHD and Autism, a Survey in California and Oregon Finds.
Generation Rescue commissioned a phone survey of over 17,000 children, in the USA, which found that Among more than 9,000 boys age 4-17, the survey found vaccinated boys were two and a half times (155%) more likely to have neurological disorders compared to their unvaccinated peers. Vaccinated boys were 224% more likely to have Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and 61% more likely to have autism.
For older vaccinated boys in the 11-17 age bracket, the results were even more pronounced. Vaccinated boys were 158% more likely to have a neurological disorder, 317% more likely to have ADHD, and 112% more likely to have autism. Complete survey results are available at www.generationrescue.org
