Dysgraphia is a neurological condition that makes writing difficult. It affects fine motor skills and handwriting, making it more challenging for individuals to express themselves through writing. Approximately 7-15% of school-aged children experience dysgraphia (1,2), making it a relatively common learning challenge.
Studies show that dysgraphia is diagnosed more often in boys than in girls (1,2), though it can affect anyone.
Dysgraphia can occur independently, but it often co-occurs with other learning difficulties. Many people with dysgraphia also have dyslexia, which affects reading, or ADHD, which impacts focus and organisation. When these conditions overlap, schoolwork can become even more challenging. However, with the proper support and strategies, individuals with dysgraphia can succeed.
